One more this year….

Having entered one or two events over the past few years, I get emails from the organisers pushing their other events.

Was sifting through my mails over the weekend, and came across a couple that caught my eye. After not finishing the South Manchester tri the other week, been looking for something to enter. Not sure why as I’ve never been particularly competitive but just want to get it out of my system. Probably dont want to finish the year on a DNF!! There’s not really that many sprint tri’s now at this time of the year, which was what I was really after. Could have looked at the Duathon at Oulton Park On 6th October but I’ve not quite got the confidence up on my bike yet.

So the two mails I saw were both for half marathons, and both on the first Sunday in November. The first is the Conway half, the other the Cheshire half at Capesthorne Hall. The latter is the replacement for the Tatton half which isn’t running this year, and coincidently, one I did last year. I quite enjoyed the Tatton half last year, although in my eye, the organisation wasn’t great. There were a few things that stuck in my mind, apart from the cold. There was a delayed start, then less than half a mile after the start, we all had to try and fit through a narrow gate which was interesting, then there was almost an obstacle course in the park trying to avoid the cyclists and finally running on very narrow pavements spilling onto the road quite a few times. Might just have been spoilt by the great organisation that is the Wilmslow half marathon but that’s what I thought.

Anyway, fancy doing one of them. Capesthorne Hall is just down the road but the Conway one looks more interesting, and is only about an hours drive away. Might convince the wife to have a family day out in North Wales, bring your mum and dad with you, and I’m just gonna vanish for a couple of hours about midday!! I’ve not done a huge amount of distance running training but I’m fit enough so could probably do it ok. I’m at the gym in the morning so after my session I’ll probably hit the treadmill for an hour or so with some tunes and see how I get on.
